Challenge

As Penrith Anglican College grew, so did the demands placed on its canteen. More students meant more food, more equipment and greater pressure on the space. Over time, the canteen simply began to run out of room.

This wasn’t just inconvenient. In a compact workspace where five people are preparing, storing and serving food for hundreds of students, space affects how safely and efficiently the team can work.

Keeping food at the correct temperature was another important consideration. With large volumes moving through the canteen each day, the team needed enough refrigeration capacity to store food safely while keeping it accessible during preparation and service.

The school began an overall refurbishment of the canteen, with refrigeration upgraded progressively as part of the project.

Solution

Over time, six Bromic Refrigeration units were introduced into the canteen, including upright, underbench and freezer options.

Using a mix of refrigeration formats allowed the school to make better use of the space available, adding the capacity the growing canteen needed without relying on one type of unit for every task.

The underbench refrigeration makes use of space below working surfaces, while upright units provide additional refrigerated and frozen storage within a relatively compact footprint. Together, the different units help the team organise food around how the canteen operates and keep frequently used items within practical reach.

For a small team working through hundreds of orders, that matters.

The additional refrigeration capacity has also helped the canteen manage one of its most important responsibilities: keeping food at the right temperature as it moves from storage through preparation and service.

With more appropriate equipment and a better use of the available space, the refurbished canteen is better equipped for the scale of the school it serves today.

It gives the five-person team a more practical environment in which to work, while helping them stay focused on what matters most – safely feeding Penrith Anglican College’s students, day after day.
